Remix Lose Appeal

Appeals to overturn the result of the Ishkawa game have failed. The game was abandonded in the 2nd half after a punch by SEAH of Ishkawa FC resulted in a scuffle involving players from both sides. ESPZEN have ruled that the final score is to stand at 4-1, with Ishkawa being docked 1 point and player Seah suspended for 4 games.

Full incident report as follows:

Dear Ishkawa, Remix, Chief Referee, ESPZEN Disciplinary Committee.

Your game on the 22nd October at Turf City Pitch 4 was abandoned due to fighting between players following a punch by Ishkawa player Jun Zhong Seah on the Remix player. Following this game ESPZEN has received an incident report submitted by Remix, Ishkawa and an incident report submitted by the referee in charge,

The referee cited that during the game Ishkawa were leading 4-1. The second half had commenced. Ishkawa player Seah was challenging for the ball from behind, the two players were close together and the Ishkawa player Seah punched the Remix player. A scuffle then emerged between the two teams, as players from both team ran towards the players involved in the incident.

In both incident reports both managers claimed the referee awarded them a walkover – indeed it is not the referee to decide on who should receive a walkover nor is it the teams to ask the referee to decide. ESPZEN will decide on the issue based on the reports received. The referee will be spoken to regarding this aspect. The referee however stated in his report to the chief referee that he did not award the game to either team (see extract below)

He (the ref in charge) mentioned that the game situation will be brought to the organiser and the outcome will be decided by the committee .He mentioned that he has no authority to make decision on the game result as the game was not over yet.

Without a shadow of doubt the game should have recommenced, as player SEAH from Ishkawa had left the field of the play. It is disappointing for the game to be abandoned in this regard. In addition winning teams or losing teams should not claim a walkover to gain an advantage and should always continue the game. The referee cited that the game was quite a hot tempered affair with both teams making strong tackles throughout. The punching incident ignited an already volatile situation.

The referee called the game off, in the interest of protecting the integrity of the league and to avoid future incident given the volatile situation.

If the referee feels the game should not continue due to the actions of one team alone then a match result could be reversed. If however the referee felt that both teams were responsible for the game to be abandoned (after the incident) then the result will not be amended.

Tempers of course in a game can rise, and a punching incident is very serious, Remix should know that to get involved in these incidents only increases the tension on the field. The Remix players should have relied on the referee to give a red card and then raised the incident to the League for further action against the player and game could have then continued.

Subsequent to this review, the ESPZEN Disciplinary Committee's findings and decisions are as follows:

1.) The game result will stand 4-1.

2.) The Ishkawa player SEAH who punched the Remix player will receive a 4 match ban and is officially warned regarding his conduct in the league,

future incident reports involving this player could potentially lead to the player being banned from the league.

3.) Ishkawa will be deducted one league point for failing to control their players.

4.) Ishkawa must send to ESPZEN by email player SEAH’s photograph as this is missing from the website.

5.) The Ishkawa and Remix Team Management are formally warned regarding the professional conduct of their players on the field of play.

6.) The Chief referee will review with the referee concerned the incident detail to provide further guidance in this regard.

7.) Both teams can now proceed to submit their QUANTITATIVE match report to the website . The match report qualitative section however should not be completed.

The purpose of ESPZEN Leagues is to provide a professional, competitive, and fun platform in which to enjoy our favorite sport. The threat of physical violence between players or players and Officials will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

There is no right of appeal against this decision.

League Update

Apologies for the late update. After 9 games played, Remix are currently 2nd in Div 3 with 15 pts. 1 pt ahead with 2 games in hand are leaders Vivid F.C.
Setting the pace
A poor start to the campaign with 2 opening losses has been improved on. The boys are slowly finding their feet and we've remained unbeaten since then, and were unfortunate on a couple of occasions to have drawn.

The Cup final in Jalan Besar saw us overwhelmed by the firepower Screaming Irish had at their disposal. We were down to 10 men in the first half when left back Melvin was sent off after collecting 2 yellow cards. The flood gates opened soon after and we fell 6-0 in the end. It was a brilliant experience for the boys nonetheless, and despite the result, we received praise and plaudits for the good football we played throughout the game.

5 games remaining in the league and the title is really up for grabs. Remix have got to concentrate on getting 3 pts from game to game and we know we'll be up there or thereabouts come season end!
